2016 Race Report

The 49th Annual Wo-Zha-Wa run was held on September 17, 2016 at Wisconsin Dells, WI. Beautiful day with temps in the 60's and full sunshine. 265 registered for our 5th largest field ever. 241 checked in and 239 completed the two events with 129 finishing the Four Mile and 111 completing the Half Marathon.

Alejandro Cayetano of Wisconsin Dells won the Half with a time of 1:30:39 and Brea Goodman of Reedsburg posted a time of 1:48:37 which won the women's division and was 11th overall.

Corey Splittgerber won the Four Mile with a time of 27:00. 13 year old Morgan Vermillion of Pekin, IL was second overall with a time of 29:28 to win the women's division. Last year's women's division winner, Sara Wollner (Milwaukee) was close behind at 29:39 and Melissa Hansen (Appleton) was 4th at 29:42. Women again outnumbered men in both races and made up 58% of the total field.

2015 Race Report

The 48th Annual Wo-Zha-Wa run was held on September 19, 2015 at Wisconsin Dells, WI. Once again we had near perfect conditions with temps in the lower 50's at the start of the race. 255 registered for our 5th largest field ever and 240 completed the two events. 139 finished the Four Mile and 101 completed the Half Marathon.

Nick Ofstun of Madison won the Half with a time of 1:21:51 and Ashley Clark of Stevens Point posted a time of 1:34:14 which won the women's division and was 4th overall.

David Thompson led all finishers in the Four Mile with a time of 24:57. Sara Wollner led the women with a time of 29:11 and finished 8th overall. Women outnumbered men in both races. 61-40 in the Half and 85-54 in the Four Mile.

2014 Race Report

The 47th Annual Wo-Zha-Wa run was held on September 13, 2014 at Wisconsin Dells, WI. Chilly morning with temps in the high 30's but warming to the low 50's by the end of the race. 201 runners completed the two events with 131 in the Four Mile and 70 in the Half Marathon.

The Cayetano brothers swept the top two places in the half with Alejuandro of Wisconsin Dells besting Evarado with a time of 1:21:41. Elizabeth Miller of Appleton led the women with a 1:38:40 finish that was good for 9th overall.

Age was served in the Four Mile as 52 year-old Pete Skorseth of River Falls finished in 23:56 to beat 46 year-old Shawn Klysen of Oshkosh. Dells native Bridgette Ennis of LaCrosse edged out Melissa Hansen by 3 seconds to win the women's division in 28:59 which was good for 5th overall.

2013 Race Report

The 46th Annual Wo-Zha-Wa run was held on September 14, 2013 at Wisconsin Dells, WI. Wow, what a perfect day for running. Temperatures in the mid 40's to start and warming to the mid 60's by the end of the race. We had 300 register and missed tying the record set in 1989 by one. 268 runners completed the two events with 121 in the Four Mile and 147 in the Half Marathon.

2012 Race Report

The 45th Annual Wo-Zha-Wa run was held on September 15, 2012 at Wisconsin Dells, WI. Another perfect day for running with cool temperatures in the lower 50's to start and warming to the mid 60's by the end of the race. 229 runners completed the two events with 135 in the Four Mile and 94 in the Half Marathon.

This year's biggest news was the continued emergence of our female participants. Both races were almost evenly split between male and female but for the first time in our 45 year history we had a woman as an overall race winner as Theresa Stanley of Reedsburg won the 4 mile with a time of 25:07. She bested defending champion Shawn Klysen of Oshkosh by 2 seconds with Beth Medinger of Madison taking the third position overall. Outstanding!!!

David Gramer of Wausau won the Half in 1:20 followed by Everardo and Alejandro Cayetano in 2nd & 3rd. Dells native Bridgette Ennis of LaCrosse edged out Katie Tunder and Jodie Arnold as they finished within 9 seconds of each other in 10th, 11th & 12th position overall.

2011 Race Report

The 44th Annual Wo-Zha-Wa run was held on September 17, 2011 at Wisconsin Dells, WI. The day was perfect for running with cool temperatures in the upper 40's to start and warming to the mid 60's by the end of the race. 238 runners completed the two events with 142 in the Four Mile and 96 in the Half Marathon.

This year all finishers received medallions in addition to passes to major Dells attractions plus all entrants received a commemorative sports towel in addition to the race t-shirt. We also added 5 year age divisions in the 70's and an 80+ age division to recognize our senior runners. Worthy of note, female runners outnumbered the men in both races. My how things have changed over the past 44 years!

2010 Race Report

The 43rd Annual Wo-Zha-Wa run was held on September 18, 2010 at Wisconsin Dells, WI. The day was overcast and cool with temperatures in the upper 40's to mid 50's by the end of the race. 200 runners completed the two events with 133 in the Four Mile and 67 in the Half Marathon. Twin brothers, Keith and Kenneth Mulhollon of Lake Geneva, WI dominated the day by winning both events. Keith ran a near record 20:34 in the Four and Kenneth took the Half in 1:19:41.

 

2009 Race Report

The 42nd Annual Wo-Zha-Wa run was held on September 19, 2009 at Wisconsin Dells, WI. Starting temperatures were in the upper 50s, sunny and calm. By the end of the half-marathon temps had reached near 70 degrees. 192 runners completed the two events with 123 in the Four Mile and 69 in the Half Marathon.
